Stitched and bound-resist in plum blossom pattern

Technique: Makiage Shibori - Stitching and crisscross binding in the shape of a motif. For this particular tenugui, makiage shibori is performed twice, first to dye the flowers pink (with a white outline marking the stitch resist), and secondly to resist the pink flower with makiage shibori technique and dye the ground in indigo.

Pattern: Ume-no-Hana - Plum blossom, it is a symbol of raw life force, as it perseveres even in the face of bitter cold and is the first tree to bear flowers when spring approaches.

Color: Pink/Indigo

Approximately 1m x 35cm (39in x 13in)

100% Cotton

Handmade in Arimatsu, Japan

Tenugui are scarf-size, all-purpose towels made of lightweight cotton, used in Japan for centuries and recently popularized and collected because of their beautiful patterns and graphic designs.

Ukiyo-e example: Utagawa Kuniyoshi (1847-1852) / Kasamatsu Shiro (1970)
