This duppata (scarf) was hand-loomed in Meheshwar using silk filament with sericin with fine cotton stripes. The seicin can be degummed but must be done so lightly as the fabric is very fine. Degumming resist using itajime shibori is a recommended effective patterning method. Afterward the scarf can be dyed in natural or synthetic dyes to yield complex effect on original gummed areas against degummed areas -- in dark and light colors, slightly different hues, transparency and opacity, and crisp and soft.
The scarf measures 122 centimetres x 92 centimetres / 48 inches x 36 inches
