Natural Indigo Powder, US Grown

Regular price $48.00

One of the most ancient dye colors found in a variety of plants, indigo has been used all over the world. As synthetic dyes now monopolize modern colorants in textiles, it is difficult to secure natural and high-quality sources of those beloved, bluish hues.

Many indigo powders on the market are sold as natural products yet have an artificial make-up. In the newest DVD, Natural Dye Workshop IV: Beyond Mordants, Michel Garcia tests multiple indigo powders to investigate the authenticity of the sources. This inspired Yoshiko to seek this source out, leading her to Stony Creek Colors in Tennessee.

This indigo powder comes from a US farm, grown and produced in Tennessee. Extracted from Indigofera suffructicosa plant variety, the powder has approximate 25% indigo content with 13% indigotin and 2-4% indirubin when made into a paste. A color fast blue-red dye for dying lovely blues on cotton, silk, wool and other fabrics.

Visit the SFS Podcasts page to find an Industry Talk from Sarah Bellos, CEO & Founder of Stony Creek Colors to learn the details of the company and its future in expanding to different natural dyes and relationship to the fashion industry.

Make an indigo dye vat using Michel Garcia's 1-2-3 instructions and maintain the vat with helpful resources from the experts found on natural dye workshop's blog.
