Explore the varied cultural landscapes of Japan for a multi-sensory experience! Join us on this intimate and immersive tour. We arrive in Nagoya, Japan, on 10/19/2023, and over 19 days and nights, we travel to Arimatsu, Kurashiki, Hagi, Matsue, Izumo, Tottori, Miyama Village, Kyoto, and Shigaraki. We conclude our tour in Nagoya on 11/07/2023.
This trip includes two shibori workshops. The first is an optional five-day Arashi Shibori Workshop taught in Arimatsu by Kaei Hayakawa, the last practicing Arashi shibori artist in Japan. This opportunity to work with Mr. Hayakawa in his studio is one of the highlights of this year’s program.
The second is a novel, innovative two-day shibori workshop in Arimatsu with a trio of master dyers and artists– Murase, Kuno, and Wada. All materials, tuition, and lunch are included for this workshop.
Another exciting element of this tour is the 38th Shibori Art Tapestry Exhibition being organized by The Shibori Community, a group based in five cities where Hayakawa-san has led and mentored this community for decades.
All accommodations, transportation, and most meals–19 Breakfasts, 12 Lunches, and 17 Dinners – are included. Yoshiko has handpicked a wide selection of delicious cuisine, including the best of street food, delicacies, gourmet to complete your cultural experience. Additionally, 5 lunches are included in the separate Arashi Shibori Workshop fee.
