Many indigo powders on the market are sold as natural products yet have an artificial make-up. In the newest DVD, Natural Dye Workshop IV: Beyond Mordants, Michel Garcia tests multiple indigo powders to investigate the authenticity of the sources. One of his missions is to continue a legacy of working honestly with the natural world.
Our 1-2-3 indigo kit follows Michel's simple recipe to make an indigo dye vat: 200 grams of natural indigo powder from organic farms in Tennessee, 400 grams of lime (calcium hydroxide), 600 grams of pure fructose, and instructions on how to start and maintain the vat.
The indigo powder in this kit comes from plants grown and processed by Stony Creek Colors. Extracted from Indigofera tinctoria and Persicaria tinctoria plant varieties, the powder has approximate 25-40% indigo content.
